Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

The course is designed for the whole critical care multidisciplinary team — nursing staff, medical staff, critical care practitioners, and allied health professionals such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists. From a medical perspective, it is ideal for core trainees with an interest in critical care, early specialist trainees consolidating their knowledge, and enthusiastic foundation doctors wanting to challenge themselves. It is best suited for those with a basic understanding of critical care.
Yes — and it makes a significant difference to how much you get from the day. The course manual is freely available online and replaces traditional pre-course lectures. We recommend setting aside one full day for private study before attending. The workshops build directly on the manual content, so preparation will help you engage more confidently in group discussions.
All delegates who attend the full day receive a certificate of attendance, which can be used as evidence of continuing professional development (CPD). Please note the certificate confirms attendance, not clinical competence in any described skills.
Workshop groups are intentionally small — typically up to 8 delegates per group — to ensure every attendee can contribute to discussions and get the most from the facilitated sessions. The small-group format is central to the course philosophy.
Absolutely — group bookings are welcome and the MDT composition makes it especially valuable when nurses, doctors, and AHPs from the same unit attend together. Please contact us to discuss group bookings and we will do our best to accommodate your team.
All bookings are managed through our booking partner, Sympozium. Please review their payment terms and cancellation policy at the time of booking. If you have a specific question about your booking, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
The Critical CARE Course is designed to build a solid foundation rather than exam-specific depth. Those preparing for the FFICM may find some areas covered less comprehensively than required for that level — however, the course works well as consolidation alongside other exam preparation resources, particularly for core concepts and clinical reasoning.

"

The training day was brilliant and a lot of fun. The teaching was very high quality — the opportunity to be taught by experienced clinicians in small groups was invaluable. I learnt a huge amount and would highly recommend this to anyone considering a career in critical care.

"

Really good, informative course pitched at the perfect level for foundation trainees. I genuinely feel that I have learnt a lot about basic principles of critical care, which can be difficult to pick up on shift when it's busy.

Jonny
Junior Doctor
"

Well pitched for a CT1 in anaesthetics — the small-group format worked well with a good mixture of topics. I'm feeling more confident about starting my ICM module.
